Michael Juhos (KFU, advisor R. Perko): Contributions to a mathematically stringent stochastics course in High School (AHS-Oberstufe)

Abstract: Although a stochastics course is part of today's mathematical education in the AHS-Oberstufe (and also other schools such as HAKs and HTLs), the presentation of the mathematical contents in school books (and therefore also in the lessons themselves) lacks the even modest mathematical rigour with which the other fields, e. g. calculus and analytic geometry, are taught. In our talk we will give some ideas how a teacher might introduce the basic concepts of stochastics in a mathematically stringent and yet for the average student intelligible manner, beginning with sample spaces, events and probability.[hide abstract]
